Story of Your Design
While it may not be the most popular analogy, I believe that Irish Dancing is like the ocean in many ways. It is beautiful and powerful. It can be strong and yet at the same time be calm. While creating this design, I tried to portray the ocean in every detail. The colors were used to create an ombre while also showing the top of the dress as the sky, the middle as the surface of the water, and the skirt as under the water. Many of the other parts of the dress were wave-inspired as well, such as the shape of the asymmetrical collar, the folds of the skirt, the swooping sash, and of course the wave pattern on the waist. I was also intentional in the placement of the gems. I organized them to portray things such as shadows, bubbles, sand, and even rays of sunshine. I also used pearls at the edges of the wave to show foam. Finally, I also tried to add parts to the design that are usually not used on solo dresses, such as the cuffs on the sleeves.
